In Europe, Minister Uraloğlu said that Turkey became the 6th country with an average of 3 thousand and 959 flightsdaily in terms air traffic volume. Istanbul Airport was the first airport in Europe to handle 1,485 daily flights – which would make it busier than long-established hubs such as Paris Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol.
“Istanbul Airport not only leads Europe but also ranks 7th globally, representing Europe as the top airport on the global stage,” Uraloğlu stated. This ranking reflects the airport’s pivotal role in international aviation and Turkey’s strategic position in global air travel.

The EUROCONTROL report underscored Istanbul Airport’s superior performance, positioning it as the 7th busiest airport worldwide and the leading airport in Europe. This distinction highlights Istanbul Airport’s critical role in connecting Europe with the rest of the world.
Antalya Airport’s Strong Performance
Antalya Airport also demonstrated strong performance, ranking 8th among Europe’s busiest airports with an average of 1,036 daily flights. This ranking places Antalya Airport ahead of major European airports such as Palma de Mallorca and Rome Fiumicino.
Efficiency in Turkish Airspace
Minister Uraloğlu emphasized the efficiency of Turkish airspace, which reported an average delay of less than 0.5 minutes per flight. This efficiency contrasts with the broader EUROCONTROL area, where the average delay per flight was 7.5 minutes. Notably, Budapest experienced the highest delays, averaging 9.4 minutes per flight, primarily due to airspace restrictions over Ukraine.
“Despite the high traffic volume, Turkish airspace remains one of the most efficient in Europe,” Uraloğlu noted. This efficiency is critical in maintaining punctuality and reliability in air travel, enhancing Turkey’s reputation as a key player in global aviation.
